Description

THE SWISS ATELIER brings the spirit of Helvetic innovation to 3daysofdesign, creating a platform for emerging talents, independent designers and established brands to share their work and visions with an international audience.

More than an exhibition, THE SWISS ATELIER invites visitors to experience the thinking, craftsmanship, materials and stories behind each work.

THE SWISS ATELIER brings together three distinct spaces within the Swiss Embassy located in the heart of Copenhagen. Each room offers a different way to engage with its architecture, atmosphere and daily purpose. All three projects can be found below.

• 01. The Grand Salon

  What

  The largest room of THE SWISS ATELIER offers an opportunity to create a strong, fully developed spatial statement. We invite brands and established designers to propose a complete concept that brings together their work, identity and ideas to create an engaging experience for visitors. The proposal can take many forms, from an immersive installation or curated environment to a new collaboration or unexpected interpretation of the space. What matters is creating a clear and distinctive world that visitors can enter, explore and experience.

  For whom

  For established designers and brands.

  Selection criteria

  • Brands and the established designers must be either Swiss or with a very strong connection to Switzerland.
  • Danish designers and brands can apply but must collaborate with a Swiss counterpart.
  • We strongly encourage collective applications, collaborations between brands and established designers as well as Swiss-Danish collaborations.
  • Applicants must submit a developed concept, including the creative direction, spatial approach, and the works, objects or elements that will form part of the experience.
  • We only accept proposals within the fields of furniture, interior design, lighting, lifestyle concepts, and/or experimental architecture.

  Costs

  • Each brand and established designer (once selected) will pay a participation fee of 300 CHF to the Embassy, which will cover the administrative work for the organization of THE SWISS ATELIER.
  • The brands and designers must submit their own participation and pay their own fee to 3daysofdesign.
  • The brands and designers are responsible for all costs regarding production and transport of material for the exhibition.
  • The brands and designers are responsible for all costs of renovation.
  • The Embassy does not grant any financial support. It is the responsibility of the applicants to find financial support.

• 02. The Ambassador's Office

  What

  The Ambassador’s Office remains largely intact, providing an existing environment with its own character, history and atmosphere. Within this setting, emerging designers are invited to introduce new objects that respond to the space. The intention is to create a dialogue between the existing environment and a new generation of Swiss design.
  
  Rather than filling the room, the selected works should feel as though they belong there while bringing something unexpected to the space. This is an opportunity to explore how an object, or a small collection of objects, can change the way an existing environment is perceived and experienced.
  
  Applicants are invited to consider not only what they create, but also how it lives within the office. Its placement, relationship with the existing furniture and surroundings, and the story it introduces can all become part of the proposal.

  Emerging designers.

  Selection criteria

  • The designers must be categorized as emerging.
  • The designers must be either Swiss or have a very strong connection to Switzerland.
  • Single applications are accepted, but we strongly encourage collective collaborations as well as Swiss-Danish collaborations.
  • We only accept proposals within the fields of furniture, interior design, lighting, lifestyle concepts, and/or experimental architecture.

  Costs

  • The participation fee to the Embassy is free of charge.
  • The participation fee for 3daysofdesign is free of charge (included in THE SWISS ATELIER participation fee).
  • Applicants are responsible for all costs regarding production and transport of material for the exhibition.
  • Applicants are responsible for all costs of renovation.

• 03. The Waiting Room

  What

  The Waiting Room retains its original function and character, providing an open framework for interpretation. We invite designers and brands to consider what a waiting room can be, what happens when we pause, and how design can shape these moments.
  
  Proposals can respond to the room through objects, furniture, materials, details or other forms of creative expression that allow the visitors a unique experience. The interpretation is deliberately open. The room offers an opportunity to experiment within an existing setting and to propose an idea that creates a memorable moment for visitors.

  For whom

  Brands and design schools, as well as established and emerging designers.

  Selection criteria

  • Brands and designers must be either Swiss or have a very strong connection to Switzerland.
  • Swiss universities, design schools and students must be working across disciplines related to design, including product design, furniture, interior architecture, material research, craft and technology.
  • Swiss-Danish collaborations between designers, brands, makers or creative disciplines e.g. Universities) are strongly encouraged.
  • Danish designers and brands can apply but must collaborate with a Swiss counterpart.
  • We only accept proposals within the fields of furniture, interior design, lighting, lifestyle concepts, and/or experimental architecture.

  Costs

  • Each brand and established designer (once selected) will pay a participation fee of 300 CHF to the Embassy, which will cover the administrative work for the organization of THE SWISS ATELIER.
